Whole House Water Monitoring Systems Simplified, with Ron Dymek of Dymek’s Freedom Plumbing

Several EAOC members have already worked with Ron Dymek, of Dymek’s Freedom Plumbing, by adding tankless water heaters and water conditioners to their homes.  So, in this week’s morning meeting, we were excited to hear what all the buzz has been about with whole house water leak detection devices, and to get first-hand homeowner reviews of these systems, including learning all about the current incentives and rebates being offered.

 

PREVENTING WATER DAMAGE TO YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS

Every day, non-storm related water causes thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to homes and businesses in Orange County.  A large portion of these floods are preventable. Here are a few tips that can save you the headache and expense caused by a flood: 

  • Check under your sink on a regular basis.

Look for leaks on the shut -off valves and on the drain line. Also check behind the refrigerator, washing machine and the water heater. Supply lines and hoses should be charged if any signs of corrosion or wear is seen.                                                                                                                                      

  • If your home has a history of stoppages, set up a preventive maintenance program.

If your gas or water bill seems extremely high, this could be an indication of an underground leak that has not surfaced yet. An electronic leak detection or static pressure test can determine if you have a leak

When things go bump in the night, you may not be home. Water pressure spikes late at night when you may be away from home. Make sure your sprinkler system is connected below your home’s main water shut-off, so your sprinklers can run while your house water is turned off

  • Review your utility bills for unusual or sudden increases.

If your water pressure is over 80 pounds per square inch (psi), then a pressure regulator should be installed and set no higher than 75 psi. Also make sure the main shut-off valve works and you know where it is.

  • Turn off your home’s main water source when you go on vacation.

If you experience a backup before the holidays, call us to clean the line before you need to call us on the weekend or on a holiday.

  • Check your home’s water pressure once a year.

Replacing gas-fired appliances in the home with electric alternatives like the heat pump water heater helps homes to become safer, more efficient, as well as help avoid emitting more carbon emissions into the environment. It was my pleasure to present this week, and I hope I explained the importance of having a whole house water monitoring system in place that will alert you via the mobile app when and if you have a leak within your home. Some homeowner's insurance companies are requiring them and many offer discounts if you have one installed. Next week, Carlos Camacho Gil with Federated Insurance Services will be our presenter.
