SPOTLIGHT ON ORANGE COUNTY'S TOP PLUMBER, RON DYMEK

Several EAOC members have already worked with Ron Dymek, of Dymek’s Freedom Plumbing, by adding tankless water heaters and water conditioners to their homes.  So, in this week’s morning meeting, we were excited to hear what all the buzz has been about with the newest options in water heating, and to get first-hand homeowner reviews of these systems, including learning all about the current incentives and rebates being offered.

Ron Dymek began his plumbing career in 1972 after serving in the U.S. Army. Introduced to the trade by his father-in-law and brother-in-law, he started at the Roto-Rooter office in Long Beach under the leadership of Wayne Rose, a no-nonsense WWII veteran. For the first 16 years of his 26-year tenure with Hoffman Southwest Corporation, Ron was on call every other night and weekend, gaining invaluable hands-on experience.

Plumbing was already in his blood—his father, a journeyman plumber with Orange County Local 582, had unknowingly set Ron on his path. While flipping homes, Ron honed his skills under his father’s guidance, long before Roto-Rooter ventured into full-scale plumbing services. When the company finally made the shift in 1988, Ron was “voluntold” to spearhead the transition. His leadership proved instrumental, leading to his promotion as Plumbing Manager, where he trained technicians across Southern California and Nevada, managed inventory, and set pricing structures. Eventually, he became Branch Manager of the Torrance/South Bay location.

In 1999, Ron took a leap of faith and founded Dymek’s Freedom Plumbing and Drain Cleaning Service. By the end of that year, he had hired his first employee, and today, the company has grown into a team of 23—though Ron prefers to say, “23 families.” The business remains a true family legacy, with his son Chris now serving as General Manager, his grandson Arron as a second-year apprentice, and his wife Shaun as Director of Business Development. Krista Dymek plays a key role in processing reports and photos, further strengthening the family’s involvement.

Ron credits his entrepreneurial spirit to his father, who, when Ron was 12, handed him a lawnmower and pointed to the neighborhood, teaching him that hard work leads to success. Most importantly, he attributes his journey to God, believing that the doors of opportunity in his life have been opened by divine guidance.

As he looks ahead, Ron’s greatest accomplishment will be passing the torch to his son and, one day, to his grandson—continuing a legacy of hard work, integrity, and treating others as he would want to be treated.
