From Local Connections to Global Impact: The Value of IEA Membership

In this week's morning meeting, EAOC members were treated to an insightful presentation from Lisa Jordan, Managing Director of the International Executives Association (IEA). As the parent organization of EAOC and many other Executive Associations worldwide, IEA provides the structure and global connectivity that elevates local networking groups into a powerful international business community.

Jordan’s presentation highlighted how IEA expands the value of local membership by taking networking beyond city and regional borders. While EAOC members already benefit from strong relationships, trusted referrals, and direct business within the local chapter, IEA extends those same principles to a worldwide network of owners, executives, and decision-makers who represent the highest standards of professionalism and service.

Through IEA membership, EAOC firms gain access to a global community of more than 40 Executive Associations representing over 2,000 member companies across the United States, Canada, England, and beyond. This expansive network allows members to reach out to businesses in non-competing markets for insight, advice, and fellowship while forming valuable relationships in other cities.

Jordan emphasized that one of the greatest advantages of IEA membership is the ability to discover new opportunities through referrals from across the continent. Members can exchange business leads, seek professional counsel, and source trusted service providers when traveling, relocating, or expanding into new markets. The IEA company directory also showcases member firms globally, allowing businesses to be discovered by classification or location with direct links to their contact information.

IEA also provides valuable resources for associations and their leadership teams. Member associations receive governance support, board training, and access to best practices for recruiting, marketing, and operational improvement. Executive directors benefit from bi-monthly updates, leadership resources, and the IEA forum, which serves as a centralized hub for sharing ideas, strategies, and solutions among associations.

Jordan also shared the history behind this influential network. The first Executive Association was established in San Francisco in 1916 with the mission of creating an elite business networking organization where members could confidentially exchange leads and industry insights. Over the decades, these associations spread to major cities around the world. In 1996, during the annual conference in Akron, Ohio, leaders formally created the International Executives Association to allow members to expand beyond their local chapters and connect globally.

Today, that vision continues to thrive. With a minimal membership cost, IEA dramatically broadens the reach and influence of local Executive Association members, offering discounted services, international networking opportunities, educational resources, and strategic insights.

Jordan’s presentation served as a powerful reminder that EAOC members are part of something much bigger than a weekly meeting. Through the International Executives Association, their trusted network extends across cities, countries, and continents—creating opportunities, partnerships, and friendships that truly operate on a global scale.

However the biggest benefit I’ve received has been “outside” of the core purpose of leads. A past member John Valentine, mentioned to me that he had heard about some industrial land for sale in Costa Mesa. I ended up buying it, building a warehouse and running my business at the time (South Coast Stationers) there for about thirty years. It was an excellent investment.
