One unexpected perk to meeting virtually is the ease of hosting guests from other IEA chapters, opening our morning meetings up to a variety of interesting topics. Borders have been erased, and our reach has been extended to San Fernando Valley, and beyond! In this week’s morning meeting, we enjoyed a fascinating presentation from Hunaid Baliwala of Woodland Warner Flowers.
The floristry business hasn’t skipped a beat this past year, and Hunaid has been grateful to remain busy filling orders and taking advantage of social media exposure.
His method of obtaining flowers has been slightly altered, as he no longer purchases through “middle men,” who used to visit his shop every week with available product for Hunaid to buy. He now goes directly to the flower market, and chooses from farm-to-market blooms direct from Ecuador, Columbia, Thailand, and many other countries. Flowers are in his hands within 2-3 days of being picked, and his customers have really been enjoying the freshness and quality of these blooms.
Walk-ins slowed down at the onset of COVID, so Hunaid wisely put his focus into website orders and social media promotions. Because of this, he is seeing far more orders online and by phone, and many refer to what they see on his social media page, proving that businesses can benefit by using their social media as an online catalog of their products.
We want to thank Hunaid for taking us behind the scenes of his business, and giving us a glimpse into the interesting world of flowers!
