One unexpected perk to meeting virtually is the ease of hosting guests from other IEA chapters, opening our morning meetings up to a variety of interesting topics. Borders have been erased, and our reach has been extended to San Fernando Valley, and beyond! In this week’s morning meeting, we enjoyed a fascinating presentation from Bill Kahn, of Law Offices of William J. Kahn.
Personal Injury Attorneys help people injured as a result of the negligence of others, and Bill has over 30 years of experience in premises liability accidents, animal negligence (such as dog bites or contact injuries), as well as motor vehicle accidents of all scales.
Bill has several “Things To Remember” when it comes to what to do at the scene of a car accident, and it was invaluable to get his advice on this!
Do:
· Take pictures of everything (scene, damage to all cars involved, Driver’s Licenses, etc.)
· Get names of witnesses
· Call police, if necessary
· Get medical attention, if necessary
· Call Bill, your Personal Injury Attorney
Don’t:
· Allow intimidation from anyone at the scene
· Accept any kind of cash offer
· Sign ANYTHING
It’s crucial to call your Personal Injury Attorney (hopefully Bill) as soon as possible after an accident, because sometimes injuries can get much worse as time goes on, and because insurance companies like to prey on the unrepresented. California has a 2-year statute of limitations for personal injury accidents. So, you must have filed a lawsuit on or before the 2-year anniversary of the incident in order to continue pursuing your case.
Bill works on a contingency basis, which means he will never take a case that he doesn’t feel total confidence in. Also, you will never received a bill for any of Bill’s time, and if there is no recovery, there is no fee. He is always available to answer questions from EAOC members and their networks.
We want to thank Bill for sharing his wisdom with us, and for taking the time to join us at this week’s morning meeting!
